PAS Seminar in Melbourne
The below has been posted on behalf of a group of concerned people wanting to fight Parental Alienation, they are serious and would all like to read and attend if possable, they have the support of this forum.
Meeting is at Malvern on the 11th September, 2013 ...
We are starting a NON GENDER specific group to combat Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS), nationally. Below I have listed some initial objectives to be discussed as the start of our charter. This is an insidious syndrome that does terrible damage to the children involved. According to a Study of 40 adults ranging in age from 19 to 67 subjected to PAS, by Dr Amy Baker PHD, the effects at the time of the study were, remember the youngest was only 19.
· Depression = 70%
· Drug & alcohol abuse = 40%
· Lack of trust in themselves & others = 40%
· Alienation from their own children = 50%
As well as the damage done to the children, the targeted parent suffers terribly. I have 2 sons 18 & 15 & until early 2011 had 50/50 custody & a beautiful relationship with both. Then found the 18yo had inexplicably been turned against me, I am only in the past couple of months having contact with him, it is stained but is moving in a positive direction. The 15yo has been estranged from me since the end of Jan 2013.
I can tell you first hand that any loving parent as I am, suffers a terrible toll to their physical & mental health & I’m certain some have suicided over it & probably most have contemplated it. I am a very strong & forward looking person, but I have contemplated it more than once.
We see the initial main objectives of this organization as follows
1. Regular meetings where targeted parents get support for the terrible sadness & frustration they feel & help to develop strategies to cope with it.
2. Through collective wisdom help develop strategies to combat PAS
3. Create enormous awareness in the community & among counsellors, Psychologists & the legal profession of PAS
4. Use the media to help in the above
5. Make politicians aware of it,(some must be effected by it) to bring about legislative change.
6. Ensure that all parents who separate must take a course making them aware of PAS & its effect on the children involved.
7. In severe cases the Alienators should be punished as for any other severe child abuse, I realise the controversial & difficult nature of this.
8. Have programs developed in schools alerting children of PAS & how their separated parents should behave towards them & that if they feel they are being subjected to it, talk to both their parents about it & or a school counsellor, all of which must be made aware of it.
If you consider that nearly 50% of marriages fail & most would have children at vulnerable ages & say 20-25% are subjected to it & it could be higher, there is enormous damage being done to a whole generation of children.
The message we are getting out to the media is as follows:
1. Has your child been turned against you?
2. Are you alienated from your child?
3. Are you experiencing an unexplained negative attitude from your child, particularly in a divorce situation?
If any of these situations apply to you, you may be a victim of Parental Alienation.
To find out how you can combat this terrible child abuse & to help you cope with it, you can attend a free seminar on 11th September at 7.30pm at the East Malvern RSL, Stanley Grose Dve East Malvern Vic. To do so please reply to Stan Korosi on 0414 888 413 so that we can cater for your attendance.
